- Sekansè: A dual 4-step sequencer with Tempo, Play/Stop, Trigger, and various sequence manipulation controls.
- Patch Matrix: A 32-point patch bay allowing for extensive signal routing and modulation possibilities.
- Koneksyon: MIDI In/Out/Thru, Audio In/Out, and Headphone output.
Enstalasyon
1. Koneksyon pouvwa
Connect the supplied power adapter to the DC input jack on the rear panel of the Spice synthesizer. Plug the adapter into a suitable power outlet. The unit will power on automatically.
2. Koneksyon odyo
- Main Output (OUT): Connect a 1/4" TS cable from the "OUT" jack on the front panel to your mixer, audio interface, or amplifier.
- Audio Input (IN): An external audio source can be routed through the Spice's VCF and VCA by connecting it to the "IN" jack.
- Headphones (PHONES): Connect stereo headphones to the "PHONES" jack for private monitoring. Adjust the main VOLUME knob to control headphone level.
3. Koneksyon MIDI
- MIDI IN: Connect a MIDI cable from your MIDI controller, computer interface, or other MIDI device to the "MIDI IN" port to send MIDI data (notes, CCs) to the Spice.
- MIDI OUT/THRU: Use "MIDI OUT/THRU" to send MIDI data generated by the Spice (e.g., sequencer data) to other MIDI devices, or to pass through incoming MIDI data from the MIDI IN port.
4. Initial Patching
The Behringer Spice is semi-modular, meaning it can produce sound without any patch cables connected. However, its full potential is unlocked by using the 32-point patch matrix. Start by experimenting with simple connections, such as routing a VCO output to a VCF input, or an LFO to a VCO frequency input.
Enstriksyon Operasyon
Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCO 1 & VCO 2)
The Spice features two identical VCOs, each with dedicated controls:
- frekans: Adjusts the fundamental pitch of the oscillator.
- FÒM: Selects the waveform (triangle, sawtooth, square, pulse). The pulse width can be modulated via the patch matrix (VCO1PWM, VCO2PWM).
- SUB 1 FREQ / SUB 2 FREQ: Controls the frequency of two sub-oscillators, which add lower octaves to the main waveform.
- VCO 1 LEVEL / VCO 2 LEVEL: Adjusts the output level of the main oscillator.
- SUB 1 LEVEL / SUB 2 LEVEL: Adjusts the output level of the respective sub-oscillators.
- SEQ 1 ASSIGN / SEQ 2 ASSIGN: Assigns the sequencer output to modulate OSC 1 or OSC 2, and their sub-oscillators.
Voltage Filtre Kontwole (VCF)
The VCF shapes the timbre of the sound:
- KOUPE: Sets the frequency at which the filter begins to attenuate harmonics.
- RESONANS: Boosts frequencies around the cutoff point, creating a more pronounced filter effect.
VCF Envelope
This envelope generator modulates the VCF cutoff frequency:
- ATAK: Controls the time it takes for the envelope to reach its peak level after a note is triggered.
- DEKAYI: Controls the time it takes for the envelope to fall from its peak to zero.
- KANTITE: Adjusts the intensity of the envelope's modulation on the VCF cutoff.
Voltage Kontwole Amplifier (VCA)
The VCA controls the overall volume of the sound:
- ATAK: Controls the time it takes for the sound to reach its full volume after a note is triggered.
- DEKAYI: Controls the time it takes for the sound to fade out after the attack phase.
- VOLIM: Sets the overall output level of the synthesizer.
Sekansyèl
The Spice features a dual 4-step sequencer for creating rhythmic and melodic patterns:
- TANPO: Ajiste vitès lekti sekansè a.
- JWE/ARETE: Starts and stops the sequencer playback.
- DEklanche: Manually triggers a single step of the sequencer.
- Reyajiste: Resets the sequencer to its first step.
- EG: Toggles the envelope generator for the sequencer.
- PWOCHÈ: Advances the sequencer to the next step.
- ±1, ±2, ±5: Controls for transposing the sequence by octaves.
- SEQ OCT: Adjusts the octave range of the sequencer.
- QUANTIZE: Quantizes the sequencer output to specific musical intervals.
- JI / ET: Selects between Just Intonation and Equal Temperament for tuning.
- ASSIGN (SEQ 1 / SEQ 2): Assigns the output of each sequencer to various modulation destinations via the patch matrix.
- RITM: Controls the polyrhythmic generator, allowing for complex rhythmic patterns.
- DIV: Divides the clock signal for rhythmic variations.
Patch Matrix
The 32-point patch matrix is the heart of the Spice's semi-modular capabilities. It allows you to reroute internal signals and connect external modules. Each jack is labeled with its function (e.g., VCO1, VCA, CLOCK, TRIGGER). Connecting a cable to an input overrides its normalled connection, while connecting to an output allows you to send that signal elsewhere.
Experiment with connecting different sources to different destinations to discover new sounds and modulation possibilities. For example:
- Konekte VCF EG pwodiksyon pou VCO1 FREQ input for pitch modulation.
- Wout LÒJ pwodiksyon pou SEQ1 CLK input for external clocking of the sequencer.
- Sèvi ak RITM outputs to trigger other modules or events.
Antretyen
Netwayaj
To clean the Behringer Spice, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth with mild soap can be used, ensuring no liquid enters the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish and components.
Depo
When not in use for extended periods, store the synthesizer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If possible, keep it in its original packaging or a protective case to prevent dust accumulation and physical damage.
Swen Jeneral
- Evite mete objè lou sou tèt inite a.
- Pa ekspoze aparèy la a twòp imidite oswa likid.
- Asire bon vantilasyon pou anpeche surchof.
- Handle patch cables and connectors with care to prevent damage to the jacks.
Depanaj
- Pa gen pouvwa:
- Asire w adaptè kouran an byen konekte ak aparèy la ak yon priz kouran ki fonksyone.
- Verifye si priz kouran an aktif lè w branche yon lòt aparèy.
- Check if the power adapter itself is functioning correctly.
- Pa gen Sòti Son:
- Check the VOLUME knob on the Spice and ensure it is turned up.
- Verify that audio cables are correctly connected to the "OUT" jack and your mixer/interface.
- Ensure your mixer/interface input levels are set appropriately and not muted.
- If using headphones, ensure they are plugged into the "PHONES" jack and the volume is up.
- Check the VCA ATTACK and DECAY settings; if Attack is very long, sound may take time to appear.
- Ensure the VCF CUTOFF is not set too low, filtering out all sound.
- MIDI pa reponn:
- Ensure MIDI cables are correctly connected to "MIDI IN" from your controller/interface.
- Verify that the MIDI channel settings on your controller and the Spice are matching (refer to advanced MIDI settings in the full manual if available).
- Check if your MIDI controller is sending data.
- Sekansè a pa ap jwe:
- Peze bouton PLAY/STOP la.
- Ensure the TEMPO knob is not set to minimum.
- If using external clock, verify the CLOCK signal is present and connected to the appropriate patch point.
