Transmitter (521-T)

The transmitter generates a signal that is sent through the wire being traced. It features an adjustable output power dial and a battery test function.

Receiver (521-R)

The receiver detects the signal emitted by the transmitter, allowing for the tracing of buried wires and the pinpointing of valves. It includes a loudspeaker and a port for the headset.

Headset (HS-1)

The rugged headset provides clear audio feedback from the receiver, helping to block ambient noise for improved signal detection.

Enstalasyon

  1. Enstalasyon batri: The 521A requires batteries for both the transmitter and receiver. Open the battery compartments and insert the specified alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity. The product does not include batteries.
  2. Koneksyon transmetè: Connect the transmitter's leads to the wire you intend to trace. One lead should be connected to the irrigation wire, and the other to a good ground stake. Ensure a secure connection.
  3. Receiver Assembly: Attach the receiver to its probe handle.
  4. Koneksyon Headset: Plug the HS-1 headset into the receiver's audio jack for enhanced signal clarity.

Enstriksyon Operasyon

1. Preparing the Transmitter

  1. Ensure the irrigation system is turned off and the wire to be traced is de-energized.
  2. Connect the red lead of the transmitter to the irrigation wire.
  3. Connect the black lead of the transmitter to a suitable ground point, such as a metal stake driven into the earth or a known good ground.
  4. Turn the transmitter ON.
  5. Perform a battery test by rotating the output power dial. A reading between 4 and 8 indicates sufficient battery power.
  6. Adjust the output power dial to a setting that provides a clear signal without excessive bleed-over to adjacent wires. Start with a lower setting and increase if needed.

2. Using the Receiver to Trace Wires

  1. Turn the receiver ON.
  2. Hold the receiver vertically with the tip near the ground, directly above the suspected path of the buried wire.
  3. Listen for the audio signal through the loudspeaker or headset. The signal will be strongest directly over the wire.
  4. Move the receiver slowly along the suspected path. The signal will decrease as you move away from the wire and increase as you move closer.
  5. To pinpoint the exact location, sweep the receiver from side to side. The peak signal indicates the wire's position.

3. Pinpointing Valves (Hotspot Signal Detection)

When tracing a wire, a significant increase in signal strength, often accompanied by a distinct change in tone, indicates the presence of a valve solenoid. This "hotspot" signal allows for precise valve location.

  1. As you trace the wire, pay close attention to sudden increases in signal intensity.
  2. Once a hotspot is detected, move the receiver in a small circular or grid pattern around the area to find the exact center of the strongest signal. This will be the location of the valve.
