"Disgruntled" by Beatriz Serrano explores the experiences of Marisa, a woman in her early thirties living in Madrid. Employed at an advertising agency, Marisa finds her work environment dissatisfying. She navigates her workdays with a routine involving online videos and calming aids. Her discontent extends to her job, colleagues, corporate communication, and workplace culture. Despite her dissatisfaction, she continues her routine, finding it more challenging to confront or change her circumstances.
As a company team-building retreat approaches, Marisa's carefully maintained composure begins to falter. A weekend spent with co-workers starts to reveal cracks in her long-standing social facade. Suppressed past experiences, unacknowledged anger, and a growing sense of weariness eventually surface, impacting not only Marisa but also those around her.
"Disgruntled" is a novel that examines the subtle erosion of spirit in modern life, addressing unseen fatigue and the pressure to appear strong. Beatriz Serrano uses nuanced humor to question concepts such as success, loneliness, and belonging, inviting readers to reflect on their own feelings of dissatisfaction.
